Behavioral modeling and linearization of a millimeter-wave power amplifier

چکیده
The use of digital predistortion for linearizing a millimeter-wave power amplifier (PA) is investigated. A PA operating at 38 GHz is designed using an accurate non-quasi-static transistor model, taking into account both shortand long-term memory effects. A realistic test signal is then used for the identification of a nonlinear auto-regressive moving average (NARMA) behavioral model of the PA. The NARMA-based digital predistorter is then derived and formulated in terms of basic predistortion cells, especially suitable for efficient implementation in an FPGA. The performance of the predistortion solution is preliminarily assessed by means of computer simulations.

The new Ka-band communications services require highly linear, high power amplifiers (HPAs). Traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) offer the best millimeter wave HPA performance in terms of power and efficiency, but are inferior to solid state power amplifiers (SSPAs) in linearity. This paper discusses techniques for improving millimeter wave HPA linearity. The significance and methods for eva...

A digital look-up table adaptive predistortion technique using a six-port receiver for power amplifier linearization is presented. The system is designed in Ka-band for a DVB-S2 satellite link. We use a six-port receiver at the linearizationloop in place of classic heterodyne receivers. The six-port receiver is implemented by the use of passive microwavecircuits and detector diodes. This approa...

Power amplifiers (PAs) are inherently nonlinear elements and digital predistortion is a highly cost-effective approach to linearize them. Although most existing architectures assume that the PA has a memoryless nonlinearity, memory effects of the PAs in many applications ,such as wideband code-division multiple access (WCDMA) or orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM), can no longer b...
